  • €6,000 - €7,300 Monthly
  • Hybrid (Vilnius, Vilnius, Lithuania)
  • Kittyhawk

At Exacaster we impact the lives of over 40 million consumers on a daily basis by working with clients in the Baltics, USA, Central and South America and the Caribbean. We operate one of the largest big-data environments in the Baltics, and we run some of the most challenging analytical workloads on top of one of the most diverse customer-data sets you'll find anywhere. Exacaster's team is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our CVM Platform team.

About the role:

You would be joining our Product team (Kittyhawk) as a Senior Backend Engineer. Our CVM Platform helps telcos grow customer value through next best offer recommendations, churn prediction and omnichannel campaigns. It is becoming an agentic platform, and we build it the same way: our engineers spend less time typing code and more time specifying, steering and checking the work of coding agents.

This is not a slide-deck ambition. We built Automaton, our in-house software factory. Give it a ticket and it sets up its own environment, mocks the dependencies, writes and runs the tests, and returns a merge request with a report. It is already connected to our product analytics, so a problem spotted in production becomes a ticket and a merge request in a few clicks. You’ll help make the factory itself better.

The platform runs on Kubernetes, in the cloud for some clients and on-premise for others. It is a set of microservices: Java and Python services behind REST APIs, Kafka, Spark jobs, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and a React frontend.

Who should apply:

You’re a backend engineer at heart: the JVM, distributed systems, data at volume. And you think in software factories: agents write, test and review, while you set the spec, the guard-rails and the quality bar. Maybe you already run one. Maybe you’re still figuring out how, and can’t stop trying. Either way, you’d rather build the machine that ships the feature than ship it by hand.

Depth is where you start, not a wall you stay behind: if a feature needs a frontend change, you and your agents make it.

This role is probably not for you if:

  • You see AI coding tools as mostly hype, or you’d rather write every line yourself. We respect that craft, but this team is built on the opposite bet.

  • You prefer tasks that come with the technical approach and step-by-step instructions already set. Here you shape the solution yourself.

Your daily tasks will include:

  • Writing the scaffolding around the code – tests, docs, deploy paths, instrumentation.

  • Shaping scope of the solution with fellow engineers and a product manager.

  • Turning repeated mistakes into guard-rails, such as tests, checks, agent skills or automation. The goal is that the same problem can’t happen again, or is cheap to fix when it does.

  • Owning the failure budget of what you ship: what may break, and what never may (data loss, security, customer data). When something breaks in production, you find the root cause and fix it for good.

  • Review peers’ work.

About you:

  • Several years of production backend experience on the JVM (Java), including services and data pipelines at volume (Kafka, Spark or similar).

  • You use coding agents (Claude Code or similar) every day, at work or on your own projects. You have built your own workflow around them that goes well beyond autocomplete: skills, prompts, review loops, automations.

  • You have owned a system end-to-end and can name what got measurably better because of you: reliability, cost, speed, fewer support tickets etc.

  • You make your case with working prototypes and clear reasoning, not titles.

  • Nice to have: some React experience. Being willing to make frontend changes with or without your agents matters more.

We promise:

  • Monthly salary for this position is from 6000 Eur gross to 7300 Eur gross for a full time role.

  • Participation in the company’s stock options program.

  • Flexible Benefits & Personal learning budget.

  • 10 Growth Days per year – dedicated time for learning and development.

  • Ownership of whole problems, not tasks, and the autonomy to make the calls that go with them. The team owns the customer outcome together.

  • Hybrid work environment with preferably at least 1 day per week in the office.

  • All the support you need from our experienced team to become an even better professional.

  • And the most important thing – you will be part of a great international team!

How we hire:

Conversations, not exams. There is no take-home assignment and no live-coding test. We’ll ask you to walk us through something you built.
